Although the Company was founded only in 2001, its predecessor, BPZ & Associates, Inc., was active for over a dozen years in international consulting and energy project development, and its management and staff for much longer still.

BPZ Energy was founded with the goal of becoming a progressive energy operator in Latin America, applying the latest proven technology to integrated energy projects. The Company quickly established a presence in Peru and Ecuador, countries that BPZ believes are highly attractive for being under-explored for oil and especially gas, both onshore and offshore---despite their history of more than a century of petroleum activity .

BPZ currently holds four blocks in northwest Peru totaling 2.76 million acres, and has a participating interest in a block of nearly 300,000 acres in southwest Ecuador. Of the four blocks in Peru, two are under license contract in the Tumbes basin (one onshore, one offshore). The other two blocks are onshore and held under technical evaluation agreements with the option of converting them to license contracts.
